Reader’s Theatre is… used to help promote fluency, build confidence, and teaches students to read out loud with expression.
How it works… a piece of reading material will be selected that has multiple parts or characters (enough for each student to have a role, even if they have to be split into groups). Each student will then be given a character/ part. During their first run through they will just read the story out loud to become familiar with it. Once they are ready, they will begin practicing reading their part with expression and enthusiasm. Once they have gotten comfortable you can increase the difficulty of their reading material, or even challenge them to create their own. Once they have become comfortable they will perform their reading for an audience.
